A masterpiece of avant-garde jazz, with a single continuous composition divided into four tracks and six movements. Mingus composed the music as a ballet, and enlisted a 11-piece band that included classical guitarist Jay Berliner. The music is rich and diverse, blending elements of jazz, classical, African, Spanish and blues. Mingus plays the double bass with passion and skill, leading the band through various moods and tempos. The music is challenging and rewarding, with intricate melodies, harmonies and rhythms. And don't forget the liner notes, which feature Mingus' personal reflections and his psychotherapist's analysis. This is an album that will blow your mind and touch your soul.
